I pondered picking that up today, but ended up with Lego Starwars. I'm also not sure if I have the time for it, though it seems like it's the best MMORPG format for me if I were to join.

Yeah, the no monthly subscription fee was a selling point for me.

NCSoft has released a Guild Wars Trilogy Trial DVD, it allows you to play the original as well as both expansions for 10 hours of play over 14 days from time of game-key activation.
Here is the
Link
to the Guild Wars Trilogy Trial page of the Guild Wars site. Amazon lists the cost as $3.50, but a complete list is available at the site.

I think I have 2 dual trial CDs I got at Gen Con. I keep setting them aside to save me money (yes, even the initial purchase price).
Guild Wars II is coming out in another year or so.

Yes, but I am not sure whether or not it will be stand alone, but it is scheduled for holiday time 2007. There is another expansion comming out holiday time this year and that will require at least one version of Guild Wars to operate.

Guild Wars II is 'slated' to open up shop holiday '08. If it is on time. Hero's Ascent (name of next expansion?) is due to come out soon, for GWI.

According to the official Guild Wars Wiki, Hero's Ascent is an Outpost type Core mission located in the Region known as The Battle Isles.

The next scheduled expansion for Guild Wars, due out holiday time this year, is Eye of the North which will require you to own at least of the three existing Guild Wars titles (Original Guild Wars, Factions, or Nightfall) in order to play.

According to the March 27th press release, Guild Wars 2 is expected to be in Beta form by second half of 2008.

Exactly! But be careful if you go to the store off 355, they do NOT honor thier website prices. I will not be buying anything from them anytime in the near future.
Many stores don't because of distribution costs. Fry's certaintly isn't alone in that. Best Buy has online only deals often as well, as does Target, and who knows how many other sites.
My guess is Amazon.com has a similar deal as well.

I have checked Amazon.com and BestBuy.com and Outpost.com is the only site showing pre-order availability. The game has not been released yet.

The only way for me to defeat the Dark Side is to join it and learn of all its secrets and then I will be able to break free and bring down the Dark Side and be ITS master!!
Guild wars only
has
a Dark Side, so consider yourself doomed.
And since I have created two characters in the Trial I have, I guess I have committed myself to
trying
to buy the game soon.

The Shotzburger effect: my good buddie has aquired a copy of nightfall for me this last week and I am jonesing for some guild action. If only I could get my darn computer to work!
What's wrong with your computer? (I'm guessing user error myself)
If you ever want to bring it over some day, I can take a look at it.

No, it is not a problem with the user. I just want to know how long it will take until he decides to take it in to the store and pay money to have someone fix-it right the first time.

If he lets me look at it, I can probably either do it, or figure out what it would take. I don't know the problems, but I'm pretty good at that sort of thing.

Verne still needs to come by and finish installing the rest of the drivers, which will hopefully clear that up, and return my software packages so I can register My XP. Once I've got my hands on that stuff I would be more than happy to accept any help graciously offered to the "get Tony into the 21st century fund" And thanks for the offer buddy.
Why anyone ever gave you a computer without properly installed drivers is beyond me. That's part of a base install and should be done immediately, as some software doesn't like to have the drivers changed (Particularly things like Direct X).
Do you know what kind of hardware you have in there? Most drivers you can install from the web.
As for USB wireless, I'd suggest spending $10-20 and getting an internal card. USB adapters can be fickle.

My understanding is that every time he unsuccessfully tried to install Vista, it would wipe all the drivers that he had put on. After like the tenth time, he stopped puting on the drivers before the Vista and after his last attempt failed, he put XP on and forgot about the drivers. He was in a hurry to get it to me after a while trying to work with Vista. Even though most of the drivers can be downloaded from the net, a small connectivity issue is complicating that at the moment.
That makes more sense then.
I can still probably get you set up fairly quickly if you have the time to stop by and bring your computer. I don't think you've been over to my place either.
