Got your message Scott, I was chowin' quickly on some quickly melting ice cream (it was hot outside today) and talking and chocking down some Dairy Queen at the same time is difficult while driving. I'll bring my 3rd ed book for you to borrow, try to get it back at the next pentad meeting though, as I plan on hitting some living L5R at GenCon and i'll need some book time to brush up and bang out some character concepts.

Cool, should I bring any of my L5R stuff or would that be unnecessary?

Yeah, I was more wondering if there was anything that you wanted to take a look at. I know that, or at least according to the AEG webiste the 3rd Ed rule book
Quote
contains an updated version of the familiar rules, conversion rules will be included so that none of the many previous volumes set in this world will ever be obsolete
so that all the 'Way Of' books still have value.
Let me know and I'll see you there, if not sooner.

For the most part, it does not seem too mechanically different from the 1st ED that I am familiar with. But the layout of the book could have been done better, I am finding myself searching for rules that I came across earlier and are not easy to find.
All in all, it's all good G.

Yeah, like why did the family write ups and the clan pages have so much room between then. The first ed had the clan and family stats all on one page. Kind of anoying, but I guess thats the price we pay for a more refined system.

Lots, but I am not sure which ones would work better as a player character and which would work best as a recurring NPC.
I like that they have clarified the spells and their effects. But I miss the Old Isawa Void Shukenja school from the Phoenix Clan book.

Probably each would work equally well for both. Thats why I like that game. That and the fact that its so cool.

Isn't that in there? I'm pretty sure it is. Maybe look a little deeper.

The Isawa Shukenja school is in the 3rd ED Book, but in the 1st ED Phoenix Clan book, there was a completely seperate Isawa School for Void Shukenja with +1 Void as the attribute bonus.

Ah, I see. So it gives something else instead of a +1 to void?

Yeah, it is either a +1 to Willpower or Awareness, but I cannot remember which and I do not have the book in front of me at the moment.
I have several Ideas for running a game, but I do not know if or when I would have time to be involved in another game, so I will have to wait and see.

All
of my ideas are good, it's just that some of them are a little ahead of their time.
