This is for Tony, mostly. But anyone else, feel free to stop by this site!
Advance Wars By Web.
http://awbw.amarriner.com/
It is slow, almost like play by mail. It is play by post tho. There is a 10 day boot window, meaning if you haven't taken your turn within 10 days of your email notification, you forfeit. I joined a big map, and i was smooshed between three other ppl. It was looking grim, indeed. But, all but two didn't take their turn (i waited a while for them to get booted...), and HALF of the map is on my side, the other half is shared by my two opponents. BWAHAHAHAhahaha. Did i mention i took Sami as my CO?
It doesn't take long to make a profile, and you can have public or private games. They also have brackets of some sort, i think, with tournements and such.

What is the difference between public and private? Also, what does it mean if capture is turned off? Is it all 1 CO battles, or are there tag battles too? Is there anything I need to know is different from AW:DS? The FAQ was pretty lame.

My guess is that Public vs Private means either 1) Anyone can watch or only players and allowed viewers can watch, OR 2) It's a game open to public players to join vs private/invite only.

That would be incorrect, as they both had the button for me to join them. Thats why I asked someone who knew the difference, not for someone to speculate an answer.

Maybe it's keep your e-mail public or private.
You could always search the site...

The required fields needed to be filled are the Game Name, Map, Your Army Choice, and Your CO Choice. Everything else is either optional (
Password for private game
, Teams, CO Bans, and Unit Bans) or are set to a Default Option.
...
Password: Add a password to your game to keep all but the people you want in out.
If no password is in this field, the game will be Public.
So, if you were creating a game, it's option 2.

Ah, that was much more helpful than speculation. And the FAQ was pretty week. And rather than searching all over the site, I thought it better just to ask Drew, as I'm sure he already knew the answer, and would fill me in on other small little details that he knows I may need to know. Sometimes its better to ask.

It's a fairly common usage of Public vs Private online.
