Just upgraded adobe reader to 8.1. Now i cannot open any of my files. Any ideas, besides installing an older version?

Take a note from the official windows Tech manual...

Re-boot your system and see if that clears it up.

I think I'm still running 7 something, I like the interface better, and I have a full version floating around.

Uninstall and reinstall or a reboot might help (I think Adobe requires a reboot).

What happens when you try to open a file?  Have you tried opening the file from inside Adobe?

I cannot open adobe. I get the 'Adobe reader 8.1 has encountered a problem and needs to close...' Same error when i try to open a file w/adobe.

Does MS own adobe? that would explain why it suxxors.

No, Adobe owns Adobe. Try uninstalling Adobe Acrobat in its entirety and then reinstall from scratch. Also, check the Adobe forum boards and see if anyone else has had your problem.

Are you running XP or Vista?

Yeah, uninstall and reinstall would help.

Adobe products are nice, but resource hungry power mongers that like to try to take over your machine.  I still can't get the stupid Adobe Acrobat bar to not come up on IE, Outlook, and Word (I tell it to not do that every time, and every time it comes back up, and usually screws up something else).
