Hiya, techies.
Ash as a co worker (who is in management, mind you) who is trying to get his songs from itunes to be compatible with windows media player/mp3 player.
It has been a while since i have toggled around with itunes files properties, and it was rough a few years ago getting the files to obey. Any tips?

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!   laughing laughing laughing

Yea it's possible only if they find a program to strip the protections that I-tunes put on their music.  Usually it's one or another kinda things, I-tunes does not share well with others. I won't say that every music file they download from there will not work... but the vast majority will not.

Of course there are ways for converting files to mp3's but I-tunes won't do that with their protected content. Only way to make those into mp3's is to burn em to a cd and then rip em with WMP. It can be a messy process tho.

If the songs were purchased from the iTunes store, no, you cannot convert them.  If they were ripped with iTunes, there is a function in iTunes that allows you to convert files from M4A to mp3.

Thrakath is right.

However, there is a simple, but annoying workaround.

Burn the I-tunes songs onto an audio CD, then rip them to MP3 using your favorite MP3 ripping program.  You'll have to fill in the song title, artist, and other info, but it will work.

But in general, this is why I avoid using I-Tunes.

I have an iPod, so I don't mind using iTunes most of the time.  Though usually only use iTunes for getting my podcasts...so I don't know of any work-arounds.  I'd like to find a freeware program that I can use to make clips of songs though, so I can make my own ringtones.  Anyone have any ideas?

MP3 editors will be hard to find for free, since it's not only a sound software, but an encryption program.  Heck, I don't know of any freeware MIDI editors, and MIDIs are open, standard, and fairly old at this point.

However, you can cheat.  There are free WAV editors, and you can use Windows Recorder to record parts of Midis as wave files.
