I hadn't head anything about this till I saw a blurb about it though WotC on Enworld.

Apparently Gen Con is filing Capter 11 Bankruptsy, and is being sued by Lucasfilm

Here is the Lucasfilm lawsuit (The actualy suit filing)

Basically, here are the issues according to Lucasfilm:
1. Gen Con failed to uphold its legal obligations in terms of financial reporting, accounting and payments to Lucasfilm ($500,000 in damages)
2. Gen Con did not give auction proceeds to Make-A-Wish as they had agreed to do ($150,000 in damages)
3. Gen Con did not give Lucasfilm their share of the auction proceeds ($150,000 in damages)
4. Gen Con did this all unjustly ($150,000 in damages)

Meanwhile, shortly afterwards (Feb 15th), Gen Con Filed for bankruptsy.  Here is their press release

Wonder if this is the end of an era?

Verne told me about it a couple of weeks ago.  But it sounds like they will continue to run GenCon Indy because it is a cash cow.  But they will drop So. Cal. and probably Europe.

Verne told me the same thing that he told Mark and GenCon will go on as planned at least this year, but there is the possibility that GenCon 2009 may be scaled back a bit.

SoCal go canned last year.

If I remember what Verne was talking about, it was something about money collected at or by GenCon for a Lucas charity. But the issue was that 100% of the money collected and reported was not turned over, probably something like a mis-interpretation of 'proceeds go to ...' thing.

They also failed to pay Lucasart employees that were there, and I don't remember what else.

Apparently, they owe almost $450,000 to Wizards, and almost $3 million total to all creditors involved.
