Just got my new Game Informer and it had a teaser about Bioware working on a KOTOR MMO.

So we will finally get to play in the Knights of the Old Republic Era.  I'm so excited.  I don't want to wait for them to finish it.  I want it now!

OK, anyone that doesn't understand what I'm talking about, this is Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.  It takes place about 4000 years before the battle of Yavin.  If I have to tell you when that was, I'm never talking to you again.  OK, maybe I will.  I'm just really excited about it.

If they did a rollback to d6, I would. I suppose i just prefer non-levelbased...as you already know..

Naturally, this will launch for the PC... any announcement for a console platform (i.e., Xbox 360)? At this point, I can't imagine it not appearing on the 360, given KOTOR & KOTOR II were both Xbox games.

It may not be D20 Drew, but something different.  It is an MMO (which means it will likely be level based in some way anyway).  I haven't played the KOTOR games, but I've heard they play well enough that you don't notice the game mechanics of D20 much.  (And it was modified anyway)  I read about it a month or two ago, and I think they are doing a system overhaul, so won't be straight D20, if it even resembles it.

That said, Starwars MMOs have a long and storied history of being bad, and even if it's good, I don't need a game I need to play $15 a month to play.

Honestly, chances aren't good.  The only console MMO was FFXI, and that didn't go over too well.  It's hard to make the game play nice with the different systems, Patching is occasionally a concern, and you have less control flexibility on the consoles, particularly for typing.

Bront, I can see what you're saying... but the 360 already has items & features that can make it a success. With 'patching', updates/patches are detected & downloaded automatically when first launching the game. As far as the control flexibility, you can lose a degree of flexibility due to the controller. This is why the keyboard controller attachment should be integrated.

And although "FFXI" sucks, it's not the only console MMO. There is also "Phantasy Star Universe", which is also cross-platform (and relatively successful on Xbox 360).

Ugh, that controller is unwieldy (I tried one out, though admittedly, just holding it).

FFXI is still going, so while it hasn't been a huge success, it has some support.  Phantasy Star Universe I believe was console only and has been fairly static in content.

It could have been console only... I'd read cross-platform, but it could've been so on just consoles. I'm just getting my hopes up, I guess.

Star Wars Galaxies was good til they dumbed it down for all the whiners. I'm willing to give KOTOR a shot tho, I've played both the xbox versions of the game were good. Galaxies at the start wasn't level based, not sure if they changed that when they dumbed it down. I'm really hoping with the KOTOR game they go back to the non-level based aspect of it. But who knows, I'm still gonna give it a shot no matter what.

I'm really hoping that they don't screw up the era with KOTOR.  It could be a really good game because it's set 4000 years before the battle of Yavin.  That means they have a lot of flexibility with the story.  As to what platform it will be on, I'm going to guess PC for start.

As long as they do some tweaks to the way the weapons look it should be an awesome game. Bioware is pretty good at what they do and KOTOR 1 & 2 didn't suck much. Smiley

KOTOR is probably the right setting to do it with.  We'll see if Bioware can pull it off.  MMOs are a little bit different than single player RPGs.

True but I think if anyone can pull it off they can. Time will tell.

I think there are a glut of MMOs out there. ENW has ads for free ones that aren't bad. I think it's too little too late. Maybe they should have started down this route instead of Star Wars Galaxies.

I never played Galaxies because of the crazy skill system that they had.  I get everything that I have ever wanted from this one.

I like Galaxies before they dumbed it down. It had a rpg type feel to it, at least to my way of thinking. Once they watered that down to satisfy the masses... I lost interest. I'm sure this one will be more like what Galaxies is now but I'll give it a try before I decide I dislike it.
