So, the first Vernecon meeting was today. While I could not attend, it did make me think of posting and seeing what everyone was thinking of running or what people would like to see run. I realize that knowing the exact dates of the event would help but I am sure those will be available shortly.

What I would like to see run:
Some non-star wars Space Opera (Traveler, Star SIEGE, Slipstream, etc.)
Supernatural / All Flesh Must Be Eaten
Trail of Cthulhu
A non-d20 Western RPG
Dread
A non-d20 Superhero RPG
Feng Shui
Qin: The Warring States
Some non-d20, non-7th Sea Swashbuckling Piratey stuff (possibly Savage Worlds: Pirates of the Spanish Main?)

Anyways, I know that New Years is a long way off but, generally, if the ball does not start rolling early, it barely starts rolling at all before Thanksgiving.

I spoke with Eric this evening after the meeting and the dates for VerneCon have been finalized. The dates are Wednesday December 31st thru Sunday January 4th with a New Year's Eve celebration on Wednesday evening.

OK! We now have a time. How about a place? I know Verne mentioned a possible new location on Labor Day.

No update as to location as yet... but I would bet on being at the Springhill by Mariott at Cantara.

You know dresses up in all that lace, big hat with a feather, and fancy up scale clothing.   Strut around like a peacock.   You know, 'foofy'.  It makes no sense, after all it burns the same as ordinary clothing.

Isn't it a little chilly for no clothes that time of year...  I guess that means we'll need a bigger fire...  Cheesy

Some non-star wars Space Opera (Traveler, Star SIEGE, Slipstream, etc.)
Nope.  Unless Star Trek or SG-1 count, but I wouldn't classify them in a space opera category...
Supernatural / All Flesh Must Be Eaten
Definately not.

Trail of Cthulhu
Sounds cool, but I wouldn't be able to run it.

A non-d20 Western RPG
Shocked I didn't know one even existed!!  Where would I aquire it?
Dread
Never heard of it.

A non-d20 Superhero RPG
I have Marvel Superheroes by TSR.  Still interested?
Feng Shui
Don't think so.

Qin: The Warring States
Now that does sound interesting, at least from what I remember looking at while at Gencon.  But regretably, I do not own it.  But I'd definately try to play it.

Some non-d20, non-7th Sea Swashbuckling Piratey stuff (possibly Savage Worlds: Pirates of the Spanish Main?)
Again, sounds interesting, but nothing that I own.

Sorry, I wasn't any help for 90% of that.
Stuff I'd be interested in playing;
L5R 3rd Ed.
Shadowrun  3rd or 4th (yes 4th too!!  I'm that desperate!!!)
Star Trek (any)
possibly Star Wars (if WEG)
SG-1

If nobody else runs any of these, I will end up running some.

Non-D20 western can be run with Savage Worlds, Spirit of St Louis, or Deadlands among others.

Dread is the horror game where you use a Jenga tower for conflict resolution.  If it falls, you fail.  I've been told it works quite well.

Qin - that did look interesting from Gen Con a couple of years ago if I am remembering the correct game. I remember it was a German company that created it, correct? It was still in the final stages of creation 2 years ago (2006 when I went last). I don't run games, but I might be willing to try this one if it doesn't conflict with a DI Festival Day!!

I want to play wynd'mere!

What is that?

Wyn D'Mere is a fantasy role playing game that Reid created, it is a lot of fun but creating characters is a bit 'crunchy' and it was written for gamers who love to role-play and are not afraid of numbers.

Thanks Scott,
As for the "and are not afraid of numbers" part, you add a 2-3 digit number to a d100 roll vs. a Difficulty of 60-250. Anyways, I might be persuaded to run it again. Smiley

That's once your playing.  Character creation has a lot more numbers.

It is a fairly enjoyable system though, particularly with some of the tweaks Reid came up with after the first release/play.

What is the procedure to sign up to run something (asking on behalf of the SCG gaming group)? Also, since VerneCon is an invite only con, would there be some kind "approval" process the SGC would have to go through to get something added?

Ash, I posted the link to the VerneCon 2008 Website website above, what you or a prospective GM would need to do is register at the VerneCon website, then once the registration has been activated use the 'Submit Game Proposal' link to submit the event for addition.

I didn't see much in the way of a forum there, just ways to submit games.  No way to request games.

Pretty much. Remember that the games that are available to play are driven by those who want to run a game at the con for others to play. In the last few years there has been a significant drop in GM's willing to run games. You also have to remember that each GM volunteers to run a game that he/she has prepared and without volunteer GM's we do not have games for people to play.

Once they have a significant list of submitted of games I think they are planning on posting an Event List on the website, but there is no 'I want to play this game' forum there.

Some of it is not knowing who's interested in what.  No one wants to prepare a game that no one else wants to play.

But yes, appreciate your GMs.  Without them, there is no game.

Yes, but the same can be said for those who decide not to come because they do not know what is going to be available to play. It's the 'chicken and the egg' thing, but to solve this, we need both GM's to run games and players willing to try something new so that everyone will have a good time.
