They did that with season 2. The second half was supposed to be another story. It didn't work the way they planed because of the writers strike.

They didn't do that with the first season tho and in my opinion the first season was their best season. This was is so-so and kind of a let down as mid-season breaks go.

It's just the mid season break, that's all.

I must disagree. The last episode ended with "This ends volume 3" (aka season 3) and then proceeded to show a preview of volume 4. I'm sorry to say but we've been cheated of 10 episodes! Boo on NBC. Angry

Now that's interesting ponder 2 volumes in one season. Strange I think. I guess we'll see how this plays out Undecided

i thought that's what they did from the start. Break down the seasons into two stories.

Season one (volume one) was 23 episodes. Season 2, 11 episodes thanks to a certain strike. I assumed season 3 would've been 23 episodes but it has ended on 13 instead (last episode ends with the phrase "This ends volume 3").  The new season usually would begin towards the end of September (season 4 = volume 4) but instead season 3 continues in Feb. with volume 4. I guess plot threads determine the length of the volume which no longer extent the whole season. At least not this season. Undecided
