Ok - if I know you all, you have opinions on this. Feel free to share.
Me - well, I have only read the 1st book, and it was a couple of years ago. However, I am not so sure that what has been shown on TV over the last 2 weeks is that true to the Wizard's First Rule. I keep turning to Drew and saying "I don't remember that from the book, do you?". But he read it even longer ago, so we are no help to each other.
Richard - looks younger than I picutred him from the book.
Kahlan - not as beautiful as I pictured her in the book.
Darken Rahl - shorter and not as evil as I pictured him in the book.
Scenery - well it is New Zealand, so much more beautiful than I pictured in the book, but no complaints there. I do believe I saw a mountain range from the LOTR movies (Two Towers to be exact) in the opening scenes of the first episode last week.
Chase - previous Xena nemesis (Draco) that I always liked. Seems to fit the bill.
One thing I will say - if they make a season for every book, then at least we will have many years to comment on it - if it makes it past the first season.
Anyway, applause or criticize away!!

Should have said in the intro "Loosely based on the works of Terry Goodkind".
Or,
similar book to movie translation to 'The Queen of the Damned'.

Yea I wasn't all that impressed with the show. I understand that they have to make changes and whatnot but still... somethings ya just don't mess with. I'm just not feeling the actor they have playing Richard... he just doesn't fit the bill in my opinion, and the guy playing Chase.. again doesn't fit with what I had envisioned when reading the books. But that's really neither here nor there since I watched the pilot and feel no urge to watch any more of it.

I pictured Richard older in my head and Chase much bigger and scary looking.
I don't like how they have altered stuff from the book but I'll still watch the series.

Chase is what i kind of pictured in my head. Again though, I have only read one book, so not a whole lot to base it on.
I will continue watching the series, simply because I like to watch fantasy shows, and it doesn't totally suck. However, I agree with Thrakath, there are just some things you don't mess with, and so far I just don't feel as if the show and book are that closely related.
I think they really did a terrible job in casting Richard. He looks fresh out of high school. I pictured not only someone older, but with more substance - more rugged too. The guy they have is only slightly taller than the female lead, which makes him look diminutive. Not at all what I pictured the seeker to be.

Sorry - I mispoke. The premier episode was 4-6pm. This past week the new episode was on at 4pm, with last weeks episode airing before hand.
Here is a link to go to where you can type in your zip code and it will tell you when it is on.

I am not cool enough to remember how to make this a link, so you might have to cut & copy it.

I think it's an interesting TV series. I missed Saturday's episode since I was in a car on the way to Moline. I'll have to set the VCR to record.

That's what I assumed too. Saturday night services are nice so you can sleep in the next day - provided you don't have a 13 month old baby who likes to get up every morning at 6AM ready for the day! We are so happy he has slept through the night since he was about 2 months old, but it comes at a price!! :-) We never get lazy mornings anymore!

Let's hope it is sooner than that. Like maybe when he can start getting his own cereal in a couple of years!!
So, back to the Sword of Truth. I have decided to read the rest of the books. May take me several years - I am not a speed reader like Drew seems to be, and I certainly can not get a book read in one week like the Carlocks are able to - again because I don't read fast, but also, Nathan takes up a lot of time. I am about 15 chapters into the 2nd book. So frustrating. I have so many questions and it takes so long to get to the answers. If people haven't figured out by now, I am not the most patient of people. So I am constantly asking Drew "Who are the so & so's" "What happens after this", "Does Richard take the Rada'Han?" & so forth. Drew will give me partial answers. I really didn't expect anything more.

Agreed Ash, I'm only through book 7 so far. I get mad at Goodkind a lot since there will be parts that are great and then parts that are for lack of a better word, WTF parts.

That was three words!!
I hear ya though. So frustrating, but as long as I get closure on small things here and there I am sure I will be able to make it through to the end. I won't continue though if I get through a couple more books and nothing is resolved, or you don't find out the secret identity of "Sister" Don't Say Her Name.

Goodkind doesn't leave you hanging from book to book generally. He does resolve most of what is going on so it's not all bad. The war, rages for several books, it hasn't ended by the end of book 7 but it is in the background more then anything else.

That's good to know.
So, are you not going to watch the show at all because of the liberties it is taking? Even though it might just be a fun show to watch if taken as it's own thing?

Watched Saturday, It is an ok show, I haven't read the books so don't know anything about the storyline. I was guessing the plot pretty easy, 'cept I thought the Wizard was going to be his father instead of his Grandfather. I thought it was a good adventure this episode. I'll watch again next week. The scenery and flow of it reminds me of the old Zena and Hercules shows.

It reminds you of zena/herc for two reasons: It is filmed in New Zealand, and Sam Rami is directing this series.
The story is great, if you haven't read the books. So far, they have gotten most of the proper nouns correct. But they have not touched on ANY of the points in the book. As I said earlier, 'Loosly based on the works of Terry Goodkind'. Ill give it a few more episodes, and if they don't at least attempt to appease the fanboys, ill be done with it.

It saddens me that they haven't even tried to stay within the story line of the books. The books have so much adventure, intrigue, interesting things going on, that they have enough material and yet they have had 3 episodes that have nothing really to with the books - things that never happened. I understand if they do things out of order, or have to condense stuff - but to have to completely make up events and story lines? I just don't get it. And they haven't even shown Darken Rahl since the first episode.
As I said earlier, I will probably just keep watching it, but I am trying to not even associate it with the books, since the producers apparently aren't either.

I just find it hilarious that the wizard was also the pilot (from the Mad Max movies) and the Mouth of Sauron in Return of the King.

Not that you can tell from the way the Mouth of Sauron was so disgustingly distored. But not surprising since both were filmed in New Zealand.

You know, this is a pretty good show when you stop comparing it to the books. I've seen all but the second episode because I forgot to setup the VCR to record properly.
They are maintaining several of the core parts of the story, they are just telling it differently. I can't wait for the next episode.
