So, I noticed we have forums for movies, tv shows, and games. But I didn't see one for books. Hopefully I didn't overlook one that was already created.

I thought we should have a place to list books we have read that are a good read, and for people to come to find something good to read.

Now, I haven't read his book yet, but we just had a service today with a guest speaker - Michael Franzese - and his story is amazing. His autobiography I am sure will be even more amazing as he goes into greater detail about his life. His book is entitled Blood Covenant.

Here is a little info about him, in case you are interested:  Michael Franzese was once the target of multiple City, State, and Federal law enforcement agencies with one goal – bring down the man they considered one of the biggest money earners for organized crime since Al Capone.  Dubbed by Tom Brokaw as "The Prince of the Mafia," the Mafia's youngest and most financially powerful new superstar was the son of legendary Colombo Family underboss John "Sonny" Franzese.  His criminal Empire spanned multiple businesses, gambling operations, movie production, white collar crime, and enough volume to earn $6-8 million dollars a week at the height of his career, landing him at #18 on Fortune Magazine's "Fifty Most Wealthy and Powerful Mafia Bosses" list in the mid-80's.

I will tell you upfront that his story is about his life prior to being a Christian (Christ-follower), about his conversion, and his life after. It's amazing.

So...read anything good lately?

Bresingr, by Christopher Paolini (book 3 of the Inheritance Series)
The Gypsy Morph, by Terry Brooks (book 3 of the Genesis of Shannara series, linking his Word & Void series with  the Shannara series)
Wrath of a Mad God, by Raymond E. Feist (book 3 of the Darkwar saga, the latest series of books about the kingdom of Krondor, which began with Magician)

I am currently in the middle of reading The Renegade Dragon, by Irene Radford (book 3 of The Dragon Nimbus History series, which is the middle series of her Dragon books)

I have to admit that I have a backlog of Alan Dean Foster to get to reading (the latest 6 or 7 books in his Pip & Flinx and their adventures in the Commonwealth series) and I am trying to get my hands on the next Raymon E. Fiest book in the Legends of the Riftwar series.

Other than that, my list of favorite authors has gotten smaller in the past 15 years as some have either died or stopped writing.
Rest in Peace, Roger Zelazny, 1937 - 1995, who made us all look at walking through shadows a little differently.
Rest in Peace, Jack L Chalker, 1944 - 2005, who made us all believe that the universe is both larger and smaller that originally thought.
Rest in Peace, Fred Saberhagen, 1930 - 2007, who made us all question the limits of enchanted swords.
Rest in Peace, Robert A. Heinlein, 1907 - 1988, who showed me that Science Fiction could be Fantasy as well. (best known to most of the world for having written the short story that was the basis for Starship Troopers, but probably best known in the Sci-Fi community for his book, A Stranger in a Strange Land)

Presently going though Swords of Eveningstar by Greenwood for my light stuff.  Most of the light reading ends up going to the used bookstaore due to space.  I do look forward to finding the rest of Lawhead's Song of Albion and some others by R.A. Salvatore.

For spiritual readings I have read The Shack and I did not have as many doctrinal qualms about it as I though it would.  I had more doctrinal problems with Pagan Christianity?  Before that, I read Why Men Hate to go to Church.  All had interesting points while I keep in mind that "the man who fears God aviods all extremes."

I just finished reading the Mistborn trilogy written by Sanderson.  He is the same writer that is finishing the 12th and final book of the Robert Jordan Wheel of Time series.  I wanted to try out some of his stuff before the 12th book came out.  I like his work a lot.  I look forward to reading the 12th book.

Very intersting stuff so far.

Mark - that is very odd that someone else is finishing up that Wheel of Time series. Do I remember correctly that Robert Jordan passed away? If I am remembering correctly, then I guess it would make sense, if he planned on a 12th book, that a fan and author would want to finish it out. How is the Wheel of Time Series?

I am currently reading the Sword of Truth series, and am on Book 5 - Soul of the Fire. I think there are 12 total, so I have a ways to go still.

Yes, Robert Jordan passed away last year.  I hadn't heard who was working on completing his notes and finishing the book but I knew that someone was doing it.  All of his notes for the last book he recorded on tape and had transcribed onto paper before he died.

I imagine that this is much like Frank Herbert's son and Kevin J Anderson finishing up the Dune series.

I just hope that he really finishes the series, that one was way too long for my taste.

Jordan's wife interviewed a number of writers and picked Sanderson to finish the last book.  So he took the notes, spoke with his wife and others and started writing the last book.  I think it is due out in the fall.

I personally like his writing style better then Jordan.  He is more fast paced and does not get bogged down in the details or go off on too many story lines (like Jordan did).  But he did say that he will try to stay as close to Jordan's writing style as possible in honor of him.  I have to read it either way since I read the 1st 11 I want to finish it (now if I can just remember what happened in the 1st 11).   confused

We are going to Maui for 10 days the beginning of March so I may bring my old paper backs, lay on the beach, sip a Corona (like in the commercial) and skim them.   Smiley

I've always enjoyed reading RA Salvatore.  I like his writing style, it's engaging but doesn't have so much detail that I fall asleep.
