Has anybody heard the rumor that he wasn't born in the United States, which would invalidate his presidency?

A wikipedia article is proof of citizenship? The reason there is a rumor is he won't release his birth certificate. I haven't seen any proof he was born somewhere else, but why not release the birth certificate? And please don't point us to the one on the web, it's a fake... Which just adds to the rumors.

The only copies of birth certificates that most of us can obtain through official channels nowadays are electronic ones.
When I needed to get a new passport a couple of years ago, I was asked to provide a birth certificate. I hadn't seen my original birth certificate in 40 years, and don't know where it is now. The one I bought and paid for in downtown Chicago turned out to be the electronic one. When I complained I was informed that it's the only format now available.
Critics of Obama should present real arguments, rather than spurious ones like the "birthers". Dishonest reasons can undermine the credibility of well-meaning but credulous people.

I also did just get a new passport. Got a new copy of my birth certificate to do it. That's not the Obama issue. The issue is he could release the authority to see his records and he doesn't, why not? It would shut up the birthers. It's not spurious, its a constitutional requirement.

He does have to prove this at some point, so anyone involved already knows the truth (I am very sure any agency that makes sure that he can legally be president has done so and can access such records). So bowing down to media pressure due to unsubstantiated rumors is probably not the best policy anyway. Likely, it's simply a matter of principal.

But that's the thing, why not have the 'agency' say yeah we checked he's good, or any of a number of simple steps? At first I thought it was just a trick to get McCain or someone to make a big deal of it so he could go "bam" here it is quit wasting time on stupid stuff. Now I wonder, why not prove citizenship? I mean he has the CIA now, they could make it up if need be...

I would hope so, but the truth is I really don't know how that works, or what organization would be in charge of such things, because its never come up in our countries history before. But, with our government, you never know....

The US Supreme Court (as it stood prior to his taking office) has already ruled on his birth and citizenship and as far as the US Supreme Court is concerned, he is a US citizen and was born in Hawaii.

Do you have a case # or anything? I would think if that were true we'd have heard it. It is important to know there were several cases brought up. All the cases I know of that made it to Federal District Court, the SCOTUS refused to hear. The last one I can find using a google search is a suit filed from Philip J. Berg. It was not heard by the Supreme Court Of The United States. This is WAY DIFFERENT than saying SCOTUS ruled he is a natural born citizen.
